At a point saw Qatar Airways lease its smaller A320 to another airline. It was a pleasant surprise to have Qatar Airways on the runway even though Qatar Airways was not allowed in this domestic airport.

The A330-200 is a great versatile plane, even for long haul. I’m sure QR can retrofit them with new products and make them awesome.

I just hope they do more than just a cosmetic touchup. This year I had 2 out of ca. 30 flight with QR on their older A332. And it certainly is a different product than the standard QR: Old recliner seats (no flat beds) in 2-2-2 configuration. Really dull!
I like flying QR – usually they have not just good service but also up to date hardware. The Q-Suite is overrated, I prefer the Collins Aerospace seat. But I really hate when they put me on their old A332!

AA deferred 787 deliveries twice from 2021-2023, the “AA has a widebody shortage” is a myth, they didn’t have a competitive enough product to profitably capitalize on the Europe boom and use them anywhere outside of DFW and CLT at the time.

Qatar was really set back by their a350 debacle with Airbus, already reviving old 773s (the dreaded 2-2-2 in business) and borrowing old Cathay Pacific 3-class for DOH-MLE in recent years. This will be interesting whether the airline overhauls the interior, or just does quick cosmetic touchups, or cannibalizes them for parts (but I think that’s unlikely as their are more cost effective ways to get parts; they aren’t a sanctioned airline, like Aeroflot, after all). I have upcoming flights with them in 2025, so will be interesting to see whether any routes I take will be on these older birds.
